The Light Jacket Reading Series is coming up on Saturday, March 16th! At 3pm, in a now-disclosed location in Golden Gate Park, I’ll be reading poems alongside Lora Mathis, Lauren Levin, and Lourdes Figueroa. Here is the location info from the organizers:
This month’s reading will be near a huge fallen tree! Enter Golden Gate Park at 25th and Lincoln, and you’ll soon see a huge fallen tree on your right (according to Google Maps it’s a 4-minute walk into the park). The closest park landmark is the George Washington Grove Picnic Area, but please note that we will not be meeting in the official picnic area.
The path to the park is paved, and the grassy field we’ll be sitting in is a few yards from the path. We’ll be sitting on the ground or sitting / leaning on the big fallen tree. Feel free to bring a blanket or chair [or a friend or two]. There’s no amplified sound.
See you then :)
Happy International Working Women’s Day to all my sisters, brothers, and siblings. If you’re looking for a book to read in celebration of women’s history month, here are some of my recommendations: Women, Race, and Class by Angela Davis, Caliban and the Witch and Re-Enchanting the World by Silvia Federici, Living for Change by Grace Lee Boggs, and Compañeras: Zapatista Women’s Stories by Hilary Klein.
I was moved by Jocelyne Saab’s short film, Les Femmes Palestiniennes (1974), which screened at a Films for Palestine event in Oakland a couple of weeks ago. I cannot find the English translation online at this time, but you can watch the following version in French with Spanish subtitles. The film will screen again in Oakland on Sunday, March 10th as a part of this Fundraiser Screening for Gaza. We are not free until all Palestinian women and children—all Palestinians, in Gaza, in the West Bank, and in the diaspora—are free.
